river from firefly ~ version 1

I made this costume for a halloween event this year when I realized I wasn't going to get my Violet Baudelaire costume done in time. This costume is as accurate as most of my costumes, but I threw this together in about a half hour the night before the event.

Rive Tam is a character on the canceled T.V. show "Firefly" and the movie "Serenity". She was a child genius who had her brain "played with" by government officals. She was rescued by her brother and is now a fugitive. Besides a genius, she is (as a result of the government testing) a psychic, crazy, and a lethal weapon. The outfit I made is from the episode of Firefly, "Safe".

Most of this costume is purchased instead of made.
The sweater is from my mother's closet.
The boots are also my mother's since mine have too big of a heel. The boots River wears only come to her calves, mine are a little too high.
The skirt is made from two colors of pink broadcloth from Joanns. It was made from 2 yards each, one laid on top of the other, the top folded over, and elastic inserted in the waist. It was very simple, it only took me about 15 minutes to make.
I am wearing a white tank top underneath, like the real costume, but my sweater is a little to thick to show it.
